Argentina Beats Canada in Copa America Opener
Argentina 2, Canada 0
Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez scored goals in Argentina's opening game of the Copa America, a 2-0 victory over Canada on Thursday night in Atlanta.
Messi put a free kick on goal that's brought in by the keeper, but it was Alvarez who broke the deadlock in the 28th minute, firing home a low shot from just inside the area after being set up by Lionel Messi.
Martinez doubled the lead 20 minutes later, heading in a cross from the left by Marcos Acuna.
Canada had a few chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to find a way past Argentina's goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez.
The win gives Argentina a strong start to their Copa America campaign. They will face Uruguay in their next game on Monday.
Canada will look to bounce back when they face Jamaica on Saturday.
